Review - Let Me In

Let Me In is not your regular teenage vampire romance. It is a lot more than that.

Let Me In is 2010 remake of Swedish vampire-horror film, Let the Right One In . The Swedish version was one of the best vampire films ever made and this remake was nothing short of its original version. Ofcourse, there are some few changes here and there, but director Matt Reeves kept his focus tight.

There are many films about vampire. Most of the vampire films have either romance or lust as one of their primary characteristic, but the book 'Låt den rätte komma in' is indeed very different. Different as it doesn't needs sex as its driving force - its all about loss of childhood, drug-addict esque life of Vampires. And this film explores these topics in depth and in very realistic way.
Chloe Moretz is amazing as a 12 year old 'Abby'

It is a story about a bullied child Owen (played pretty well by Kodi-Smit McPhee) and and innocent looking 12 years old girl Abby (amazingly performed by Chloe Moretz) who fall in love. But the boy doesn't  knows about the truth of girl - that she is a vampire. But he accepts her and her truth.

Director Matt Reeves doesn't confines the script to the romance - but also throws some light on insight of both Owen's and Abby's lives. Owen's emotional turmoil after his parent's divorce and his state of mind after tragic accidents of bullying by some sadistic "big boys" is wonderfully presented on screen. On the other hand, Abby's relationship with his old care-taker and her condition due to blood lust is certainly one of the strong points of the film.

Apart from script and wonderful acting from both the leads, cinematography by Greig Fraser is just sort of words. It is bleak, fueled with dark greys and cold blues - the photography alone creates such a static eerie atmosphere which captivates the viewers. Music by Michael Giacchino is also a highlight, and is haunting.

Let Me In is perhaps not your regular teenage vampire romance. It is a lot more than that. And that is what which makes it special. Its spooky, eerie and certainly disturbing. Watch it and you will be rewarded.
3.5/5
